Barack Obama has been President-Elect for all of 5 minutes and has proven that he is yet a Washington Sprout.
In what is a long-standing tradition; the new President-Elect met with President Bush yesterday to tour the White House and discuss a few salient issues effecting the country. Apparently as quickly as Obama left what was supposed to be a private meeting, he leaked its contents to the press. Unnamed sources from the Obama team claim that President Bush stated he would be open to a bailout for the auto industry if Obama could convince democrats in congress to pass a free-trade agreement with Colombia. As if anyone would be surprised. A capitalist behaving as a capitalist. Shocking notion indeed!
Obama's camp made a statement today claiming that this was not the case. Obama had made no such claim. Its a little too late now 'Mouth'. Its not surprising that Democrats in congress shudder at the mention of the words 'Executive Privilege'. They cannot keep the most meaningless of secrets. Why should the other side get to?
This is to be expected I suppose. Since the exit of LBJ, Democratic Presidents have treated the Office of the President of the United States with the dignity and respect of a Johnny-on-the-Spot. Jimmy Carter found it an excellent perch from whence he could more easily line up US antagonists and kiss their asses. Bill Clinton rented out the Lincoln Bedroom like it was a Motel 6--netting a cool $5.4 million for the experience according to CNN-- and used the Oval Office to get bj's from 22 year old interns.
Is it any wonder why the majority of the press treats it the same way? Its going to be a long 4 years.
